Research and technical references consulted in sound design. The sounds, participants, and conditions studied differ from this app.
Noise and Masking
Noise may make surrounding sounds less noticeable, but evidence for better sleep is uncertain. Some studies found that continuous noise disrupted sleep.

Attention and Background Sound
Small benefits of white and pink noise mainly come from task studies in children with ADHD or attention difficulties. Benefits for adults in general, brown noise, or everyday work are unestablished.

Nature
Some studies support short-term stress recovery, but results vary by outcome. They did not test this app's synthesized sounds.
Musical Elements and Silence
Music has evidence for improving perceived sleep quality. Benefits of specific chords or synergy with noise are unestablished. Pausing this app's sound events differs from the silence used in studies.
